Dear everyone,

Hope you all are enjoying the summer sunshine and are full of enthusiasm and energy to continue your summer training at the TTC club. Here’s a little update on what is happening in the club and what we have in store.

Ekaterina Shulaeva Named TTC Touring Pro

Ekaterina Shulaeva, former Fed Cup team member for Canada just returned to the pro circuit. Ekaterina, or best known as “Katy” has been out with a foot injury [stress fracture] since the middle of 2008 but is now back competing after receiving treatment from world-renowned doctor Anthony Galea. She has been training and competing for the last two months with ACE teammate Carmen Sandor in Brazil under the watchful eye of Carlos Kirmayr, former coach of US Open Champion Gabriela Sabatini.

Katy has just signed on as the new Touring Pro for Toronto Tennis City and will be training under the guidance of her coach Pierre Lamarche at the club. She will also be playing professional events including the Rogers in North America this upcoming summer. Look for Katy’s new column starting on the next edition of the ONcourt Notes from Pierre.

Indoor East Ladies League

Toronto Tennis City is pleased to announce that 3 competitive ladies’ teams will be registered with the league in the Fall of 2010. The teams will be an A2 and two B2 teams. All teams will be under the direction of tennis director Ben Armstrong who will act as the General Manager and be responsible for all operational decisions. The Head Coach for each team will be selected by the General Manager. Each Head Coach will be responsible for the selection and training of their teams.

The leagues are slated to start in October. Selections will be done in September. Any members interested in trying out for the teams should register online through GameTime under Registration – Indoor East Ladies League or by contacting Allan at (647) 381 6464.

Information on try-outs, costs, practice times and league matches will be made available in the near future.

Wimbledon event
Sunday July 4th, 2010

After the success of the TTC first social event, we are excited to offer you another unforgettable tennis event. Toronto Tennis City is a members’ club, only members and their guests can make our events a success. Events are offered to provide interaction between members and their guests. Please note that if the club does not have at least 16 participants registered for the Wimbledon final by Monday, June 21, we will be cancelling the event.

OTA Pro-Am Fundraiser
Saturday June 12th, 2010

The inaugural OTA Pro-Am Fundraiser was hosted by the prestigious Thornhill Golf and Country club and former Davis Cup player and Canadian Tennis Hall of Famer, Dale Power on Saturday, June 12th. The dinner and silent auction supported junior tennis development in Ontario, specifically, Under 14 training, coaching, and travel opportunities for up and coming young athletes. Dinner guests enjoyed wine tasting, compliments of Beringer Winery from California and an elaborate buffet dinner as well as the opportunity to bid on more than $20,000 value of silent auction items ranging from the practical to the priceless. Guest celebrities included the Event Host Gord Martineau from CityTV and Marin Cilic’s coach Bob Brett. Toronto Tennis City actively supported the event. Anna Blagodarova joins TTC coaching staff

We are happy to announce that Anna Blagodarova, a top Division 1 NCAA tennis player from Texas A&M University, who won more than 100 matches for her school (3rd highest all time) has joined the coaching staff of Toronto Tennis City. Anna will be offering member playing lessons at $60 plus HST per hour. Any member beating Anna in the set, will receive their lesson at no charge. She will also be available for private lessons at $70 plus HST.

Junior Camps Underway

Toronto Tennis City has started its schedule of summer junior camps for players of all ability. This week and next, members can see some of the best U12, U14 players from Ontario getting ready for the Ontario Provincial Championships. The camps will be operating all summer long, and members should know times for court availability.
